This is a bud vase made of pure copper. We use antique and contemporary metalsmithing tools and techniques to form and etch the copper. We hand paint the surface design on to the copper then etch the metal using electrical current. This bud vase has a turquoise patina applied to the background of the etching then a few of the closed shapes in the design were painted with colors of yellow, red and blue for a tiny pop of bright color here and there. We used small hammers to meticulously roll the top edge of this vase. Finally, the copper was left to naturally darken slightly, then we applied wax to protect the surface from water. One of a kind.
