This is a hand forged and etched copper bud vase. We hand forge the pure copper using countless metalsmithing tools and techniques to shape the metal. The etched images are achieved using electrical current after the images are meticulously drawn by hand directly on to the surface of the copper. The copper is then darkened with a patina specifically formulated for copper which renders it the rich deep dark color of bronze. Photos don’t show the patina color very well (they never do, metal is difficult to capture in a photo) the patina color on this vase is darker and more mahogany then appears in the photos. We then wax and buff the surface to bring out the subtle details of the etchings. The wax enhances the patina as well as protects the copper from water spotting. One of a kind.
